ARRIVAL OF WINTER GUESTS
Arrival of winter guests to the Secovlje Salina Nature Park (SSNP)
SSNP is known for one of the best wintering sites for water birds arriving from the nortern parts of Europe. This autumn waterfowl was not numerous in the area until the last days of December when parts of Europe were covered in ice and standing waters were frozen. Few days after more than thousand Coots, hundreds of Mallards and other ducks arrived to the flooded salt-pans and flocks of Divers, Grebes, Cormorants and Gulls are still seen floating at the sea in from of the salinas.
The Dragonja estuary is now the right place to enjoy in birdwatching and learn about intersting water birds.
