GREATER FLAMINGO - Phoenicopterus ruber
Greater flamingo Phoenicopterus ruber again in SSNP

On Saturday 23rd of January 2010 in the pool by the sea Marina Klemenčič with her friends noticed flamingos.

Today a SSNP team set out that flamingo was still there. In the company of nearly a thousand of black coot Fulica atra, wigeon Anas penelope and spoonbill A. clypeta is resting peacefully. Looking through the telescope we have note another surprise. A bird is a last year's cub in the winter feathers, with attached blue PVC ring on the right leg with white inscription IVAJ. The subject was checked and found that it was flamingo ringed in 2009 as an cub in Comacchiu (Italy).

Flamingo in the hinterland of Slovenia occurs extremely rarely. At the sea shore is more common, especially in winter.
